Meta has launched the Llama Impact Accelerator across Sub-Saharan Africa, a new initiative aimed at advancing open-source AI innovation by supporting startups working on scalable, socially relevant technologies.
The six-week accelerator programs will be hosted in Nigeria, Kenya, Senegal, and South Africa, offering participants equity-free funding, technical training, mentorship, and access to local policy networks.
The program will conclude with Demo Days in each country, where participating teams will present Llama-powered AI prototypes to panels of experts, investors, and policymakers. Selected teams will receive additional support through a six-month post-program phase focused on refining their products, building communities, and expanding into new markets.

The initiative is being delivered in partnership with national innovation and AI agencies, including Nigeria’s Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy; Kenya’s Ministry of Information, Communications and the Digital Economy; Senegal’s Ministry of Communication, Telecommunications and Digital Affairs; and South Africa’s Department of Public Service and Administration and Centre for Public Service Innovation. Local incubators and training organizations are also involved.
The Llama Impact Accelerator focuses on addressing regional development challenges through AI in sectors such as agriculture, health, public safety, education, financial inclusion, and government services. By providing technical resources and a platform for collaboration, Meta aims to foster a generation of African AI developers who can shape local solutions and contribute to global AI policy discussions.
The program is part of Meta’s broader effort to support open-source AI globally and expand access to tools that can power inclusive, sustainable technological growth.
