Marriott International has announced plans to open The Cape Town EDITION, marking the debut of its luxury EDITION brand in Africa. The hotel, part of a landmark agreement with V&A Waterfront Holdings, is set to launch in 2026 within Cape Town’s iconic waterfront district.
The Cape Town EDITION will feature 142 guest rooms and suites, world-class dining, a rooftop bar, spa, pool, meeting and event facilities, and curated social spaces reflecting the city’s cultural heritage. The development will also include six private residences, blending contemporary luxury with the EDITION brand’s signature simplicity.
Designed by Shanghai-based Neri & Hu in collaboration with local architects StudioMAS, the project aims to deliver a sophisticated atmosphere combining modern style with local character.
David Green, CEO of V&A Waterfront, emphasized the city’s growing tourism demand and said the project will set a new standard for luxury hospitality in Cape Town, offering access to high-end retail, restaurants, charter cruises, and cultural attractions.
Situated along the planned Granger Bay development, the property offers panoramic views of the Atlantic Ocean, Table Mountain, Lion’s Head, and Signal Hill. Guests will also enjoy the waterfront’s amenities, including a public promenade, yacht berths, and event spaces.
Karim Cheltout, Senior Vice President, Development, Middle East & Africa, Marriott International, described the launch as a “significant milestone” and a reflection of Cape Town’s creativity, diversity, and dynamic spirit.
The Cape Town EDITION joins EDITION’s global portfolio of 21 hotels, adding Africa to cities like New York, Miami Beach, London, Tokyo, Dubai, and Barcelona. The project underscores Marriott’s strategy to expand luxury hospitality offerings in key international destinations.
The hotel is anticipated to open in 2026, reinforcing Cape Town’s position as a leading global tourism destination.
