Kpop Demon Hunters has soared to the top of Netflix’s charts, becoming the streaming giant’s most-watched movie of all time with more than 236 million views since its June release. The animated musical has dethroned Red Notice as Netflix’s biggest hit, marking yet another milestone in its surprising global success story.
The film follows Huntr/x, a fictional K-pop girl group that battles demons using a mix of music and martial arts. Initially launched with a quiet premiere at Netflix’s Tudum theatre in Los Angeles, the movie gained unstoppable momentum over the summer thanks to viral clips, memes, and glowing reviews praising its vibrant animation and celebration of Korean culture.
But its greatest pull has been the music. Featuring tracks crafted by seasoned K-pop producers who have worked with BTS and Twice, the film’s soundtrack has taken over global charts. The hit single Golden topped the Billboard Hot 100 earlier this month and remains number one on Spotify’s global chart.
Netflix capitalized on the craze by releasing a sing-along version of the movie in cinemas across the US, Canada, the UK, Ireland, Australia, and New Zealand. The move propelled the film to Netflix’s first-ever number one box office spot in the US. A global sing-along version has since been rolled out on its streaming platform.
The soundtrack continues to shatter records. Multiple songs have entered Spotify’s global Top 10, with Golden and rival track Your Idol by in-film boy group Saja Boys both topping the US Spotify chart at different times. This feat made Huntr/x and Saja Boys the highest-charting fictional K-pop groups in Spotify history—surpassing even BTS and Blackpink.
Kpop Demon Hunters also became the first soundtrack ever to land four songs simultaneously in the Billboard Hot 100’s Top 10.
With the runaway success of the film and its music, industry insiders confirm that discussions about a sequel are already underway.
