The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) says it has increased the monthly wages of sweepers from GH¢250 to GH¢800 as part of efforts to improve their welfare and strengthen sanitation services across the metropolis.
The decision was announced by the Mayor of Kumasi, Mr Richard Ofori Agyemang Boadi, who said the upward adjustment was aimed at motivating sanitation workers to sustain efforts at keeping the city clean.
He acknowledged the vital role sweepers played in maintaining environmental sanitation and noted that the previous monthly wage of GH¢250 was inadequate considering the nature of their work.
Mr Boadi expressed optimism that the new wage would boost the morale of the workers and encourage greater commitment to improving sanitation in the metropolis.
He said the wage increment formed part of the Assembly’s broader measures to enhance environmental cleanliness and improve sanitation management in Kumasi.
