The Ghana Statistical Service (GSS) has reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining high statistical standards and strengthening collaboration within the National Statistical System to promote evidence-based national development.
In a statement marking World Statistics Day, celebrated under the theme “Quality Statistics for Everyone,” the GSS urged policymakers, businesses, and civil society to place evidence at the centre of planning and decision-making for more inclusive and sustainable growth outcomes.
“Quality statistics are far more than numbers. They are the foundation of progress, the mirror of national realities, and the compass for policy direction,” the statement said.
The Service emphasized that the credibility of national policies depends on the integrity of the data that informs them, noting that its work continues to be guided by transparency, methodological rigour, and accuracy.
“At GSS, we recognise that every sound policy begins with sound data,” it added, pledging to keep producing reliable statistics that reflect real economic and social conditions across Ghana.
As part of ongoing reforms, the GSS said it is modernising data collection systems by integrating digital technologies to enhance efficiency, improve real-time data access, and expand the use of high-quality information for decision-making.
“Our greater responsibility is to ensure that statistics are not only available but also understandable, accessible, and actionable,” the Service stated, while expressing gratitude to its partners for supporting the production and dissemination of official data nationwide.
The GSS currently produces monthly and quarterly data on key economic indicators, including inflation, the Consumer Price Index (CPI), Producer Price Index (PPI), and Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
It also conducts national censuses and surveys to generate demographic, economic, agricultural, and housing statistics used by government agencies, academia, businesses, and international development partners.
By anchoring governance and development decisions on reliable evidence, the GSS reaffirmed its role as the country’s trusted custodian of official data, ensuring that every statistic tells a meaningful story about Ghana’s progress and priorities.
