Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has reaffirmed his commitment to transforming Ghana’s economy through digitalisation and technology as he is set to launch Ghana’s first credit scoring system on November 7, 2024.
The initiative seems to one of the policies the Vice President is keen on implementing before the country heads to the polls.
The new credit scoring system will enable Ghanaians to acquire items on credit, making it easier to access goods and services and empowering consumers to improve their quality of life. By formalizing credit assessment, the system offers a structured way for individuals to build and manage their creditworthiness.
Ghana’s credit scoring system will be only the second in Africa, following South Africa’s established model.

Speaking at a campaign rally in Nyinahin in the Atwima Mponua District, Dr. Bawumia noted that the government has already put the necessary infrastructure in place to support the system’s implementation.
This infrastructure, he said includes the Ghana Card, digital address system, mobile money interoperability and others, which would make it easier for people to actively participate in the credit scoring system.
Dr. Bawumia further emphasized that the credit scoring initiative is part of his broader strategy to leverage digitalisation for economic transformation.
