The Ghana Stock Exchange (GSE) experienced a notable increase in trading volume over the past week. The highest volume was recorded on Friday, March 14, with a total of 1,092,794 shares traded.
This was a sharp rise compared to Thursday’s 290,131 shares. Tuesday also saw significant activity, with 1,120,141 shares changing hands. In contrast, Monday had the lowest volume of the week at 324,396 shares.
Market Capitalization Sees Growth
Market capitalization showed a consistent upward trend, closing at GHC 135,095.30 million on Friday, up from GHC 133,236.58 million at the start of the week.
This growth was largely driven by increased investor confidence and higher trading activity in key stocks such as CalBank (CAL) and MTN Ghana (MTNGH).
GSE Composite and Financial Stock Index Movement
The GSE Composite Index (GSE-CI) also reflected the market’s overall positive momentum. It closed at 6,109.28 points on Friday, marking an increase from 6,054.80 on Monday.
The Financial Stock Index (FSI) similarly saw growth, rising from 2,892.19 on Monday to 2,980.16 by the end of the week.
Top Gainers for the Week
Several stocks registered notable gains during the week. Total Petroleum Ghana (TOTAL) gained 1.98 on March 14 and 1.64 on March 10. Standard Chartered Bank (SCB) recorded a 0.48 increase on March 14 and 0.02 on March 12. CalBank (CAL) saw an increase of 0.01 on both March 14 and March 12.
Access Bank Ghana (ACCESS) gained 0.50 on March 14, while Ecobank Transnational Incorporated (ETI) went up by 0.07 on March 14. GCB Bank (GCB) increased by 0.04 on March 14 and 0.02 on March 12. Société Générale Ghana (SOGEGH) gained 0.03 on March 13, Enterprise Group Limited (EGL) increased by 0.02 on March 12, and GOIL Company Limited (GOIL) recorded a 0.01 increase on March 14.
NewGold ETF (GLD) also posted a significant gain of 6.35 on March 13 before experiencing a sharp decline later in the week.

Top Losers for the Week
While many stocks performed well, some recorded losses. NewGold ETF (GLD) declined by 2.69 on March 10, despite gaining significantly earlier in the week. MTN Ghana saw losses across multiple trading sessions, with a decline of 0.01 on March 14, 0.02 on March 13, and 0.01 on March 11. CalBank also recorded a 0.01 drop on March 13.
