The Ghana Stock Exchange (GSE) inched up yesterday, even though trading activity slowed down compared to the big surge seen on Tuesday.

The market’s main indicator, the GSE Composite Index, rose slightly from 8,628.21 to 8,634.75 points, showing that investor confidence remained steady. This also pushed market capitalization up to about GH¢167.8 billion.

Unlike Tuesday, when more than 10 million shares exchanged hands, yesterday’s session was much quieter. The market recorded 1.58 million shares worth GH¢2.35 million, but the lower volume didn’t stop some key stocks from pulling the market upward.

Benso Palm Plantation (BOPP) was the standout performer, gaining GH¢0.81 to close at GH¢46.51. CalBank (CAL) also ticked up by GH¢0.01 to end at GH¢0.45, supported by strong investor interest with over 1.2 million shares traded. Ghana Oil Company (GOIL) added GH¢0.03, closing at GH¢2.88.

The GSE Financial Stocks Index also improved slightly, moving from 4,495.51 to 4,500.14 points, highlighting ongoing strength in the financial sector.
