Registrar of Companies Sets January Deadline for Renewal of Business Names

Unrenewed business names will be deemed lapsed and removed from the register after January 17, 2027

Nov 5, 2026

The Office of the Registrar of Companies (ORC) has given owners of registered business names until January 17, 2027, to renew their registrations or risk having their names removed from the official register.

In a public notice, the ORC said all registered business names are required to be renewed annually upon the expiry of their registration but noted that “a number of business names on the Register have not been renewed as required by law.”

The Registrar warned that business names not renewed by the January deadline “shall be deemed lapsed and shall accordingly be removed from the Register maintained by the Office.”

Once removed, the affected business names “shall cease to exist,” the ORC said, warning that anyone who continues trading under a cancelled name would be operating in breach of the law and could face applicable sanctions.

Business owners whose renewals are due or have expired have been advised to renew their registrations at any ORC office or through the USSD code *222#, settle all outstanding renewal fees and update changes in their business particulars, including their address or nature of business.

Owners who no longer intend to operate under a registered business name may also notify the Registrar in writing for the name to be removed from the register.

The deadline comes as the Registrar continues its wider effort to clean up Ghana’s business register and enforce compliance with corporate registration requirements. The ORC recently struck several companies from the Register of Companies, declaring them dissolved under the Companies Act.

The Office said it remains committed to “ensuring compliance with Ghana’s corporate regulatory framework” while promoting “high standards of corporate governance and business transparency.”

Business owners with expired registrations now face a January 17, 2027 deadline to renew their names or risk cancellation from the register.
