The Ghana Standards Authority (GSA) has firmly denied reports suggesting an imminent increase in cement prices, describing the claims as false and misleading.
In a statement signed by the GSA Director-General, Professor George Agyei, the Authority clarified that there is no approved plan to raise cement prices by GH¢6, as widely circulated on social media.
The reports had suggested the alleged increase would take effect on Monday, January 19, 2026.
According to the GSA, the Cement Manufacturing Development Committee, of which the Authority is a member has not taken any decision or issued any directive authorising a price adjustment.
“The notice circulating about a ¢6 price increment of cement on Monday, 19th January, 2026, is false,” the statement said.
The Authority urged the public, businesses, and industry players to disregard the claims and exercise caution when engaging with unverified information.
It further advised stakeholders to rely on official communication channels of the GSA for accurate and timely updates on regulatory or industry-related matters.
The GSA warned that the spread of misinformation could cause unnecessary panic and distort market activity, stressing the importance of verification before acting on such reports.
