The Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) has called on DecoBuild, operators of the Madina Lorry Park, to immediately halt the collection of what it describes as unauthorized tolls from commercial drivers.
In a press conference held in Accra on Friday, May 9, the Union criticized DecoBuild’s implementation of a “pay-as-you-go” toll system, which it claims has imposed excessive financial pressure on drivers. Unlike the long-standing practice of a one-time daily toll, drivers are reportedly being charged multiple times per day under the new arrangement.
GPRTU has issued a one-week ultimatum to the La Nkwantanang-Madina Municipal Assembly, urging the local authority to step in and enforce standard toll regulations at the station.

“We are pleading with the La Kwantanang Municipal Assembly to take this up, and we are giving them one week from now,” a Union representative said. “If they are unable to do it, then we would have to advise our people to increase our lorry fares by 10% to recover those costs. It is in our hope and belief that those in authority will take it up.”
The Union warned that failure to address the issue would likely result in a fare increase, passing the added cost on to passengers.
