Minister for Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, has announced government’s plans to build a 50,000 capacity stadium at the Borteyman Sports Complex as part of efforts to transform the area into a modern sports city.
Mr. Adams acknowledged the infrastructural challenges facing Ghana’s sports sector but reaffirmed the government’s commitment to upgrading facilities to international standards.
“We are looking to have a new stadium of that size around our Borteyman Sports Complex because we want to elevate that whole space into a sports city or village so that international clubs can come and camp and train there,” he explained.
The project will include accommodation facilities, aimed at easing the financial burden of hosting the Black Stars and other national teams.
“When this is done, in the future, you will not see accommodation for the Black Stars on the national budget. But we are working on a PPP arrangement,” Mr. Adams said.
He confirmed that the new stadium will have a minimum capacity of 50,000 seats, with completion targeted before 2028.
According to the Minister, the initiative is part of a broader strategy to position Ghana as a leading sports hub in Africa, attract international teams for training camps, and boost sports tourism.
