The Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Investment Promotion Centre (GIPC), Simon Madjie, has emphasised Ghana’s efforts to attract strategic investments following discussions with a delegation from Africa World Airlines (AWA), as the country advances plans to strengthen sectoral growth and regional connectivity.
The delegation, led by Chief Safety Officer Zhenzhou Lian, presented plans to expand AWA’s regional footprint, including proposed routes from Accra to Freetown and Abidjan. The expansion forms part of a broader strategy to position Accra as a “regional aviation hub,” with longer-term ambitions to establish intercontinental linkages, including potential connectivity to Beijing.
Discussions also extended beyond aviation, with the airline indicating interest in diversifying into high-value sectors. These include pharmaceuticals and industrial manufacturing, with proposals covering “IVF services,” vaccine-related operations, and the establishment of an assembly facility to support Ghana’s mining and construction industries.
Madjie reiterated the Centre’s readiness to “facilitate these investments,” highlighting the importance of aligning investor interest with national development priorities. He further highlighted the government’s 24-hour economy policy as a “key enabler” for industrial expansion, particularly in sectors requiring continuous production cycles and efficient logistics.
Both parties expressed optimism about “future collaboration,” signalling potential momentum in advancing the proposed initiatives.
