Ghana’s Minister of Energy and Green Transition, John Abdulai Jinapor, will tomorrow, Tuesday, May 6, join an elite panel of global energy leaders at the 2025 Africa Energy Forum to discuss the future of Africa’s Oil and Gas Sector.
The Africa Energy Forum (AEF) is a high-level event under the OTC Around the World Series that discusses pertinent issues in the area of energy.
This year’s forum is organized under the theme, “Africa’s Energy Investment Drive Amid Global Transition to Green Minerals and Clean Energy.
Scheduled for tomorrow, May 6, 2025, in Houston, Texas, the event is expected to shape the trajectory of energy investments across Africa amid the continent’s dual pursuit of hydrocarbons development and green transition.

Ghana’s Minister for Energy and Green Transition, John Jinapor, who was recently appointed has been selected as part of the headline speakers session. John Jinapor’s participation comes at a critical time for Ghana, as the country looks to deepen upstream investment, resolve existing energy sector debts, and transition toward cleaner energy solutions. His engagement is expected to highlight Ghana’s progress and ambitions in balancing hydrocarbon development with climate goals, while advocating for investor confidence in the country’s energy mix.
The AEF 2025 will unpack the state of oil and gas projects across the continent and the need for smart regulations and enabling policies to attract capital into new and ongoing exploration ventures.
Organizers say this year’s edition places particular emphasis on the role of African oil companies and regulatory frameworks that enhance their participation in resource development.

Among other pertinent issues in the sector, the minister is also expected to speak on Ghana’s renewed focus on balancing oil and gas development with renewable energy integration.
It is also anticipated that his presence at the forum will enable Ghana to push its ambition of attracting energy investments into the country in the wake of the mass global energy transition.
The discussions will generally address critical themes around investment, regulatory frameworks, and Africa’s readiness for the global shift to clean energy and green minerals.
Aside from Ghana’s Minister for Energy, the forum also brings together energy sector players such as Heineken Lokpobiri (Nigeria), Bruno Itoua (Republic of Congo), and Nana Joe Mensah of Kosmos Energy. These experts will examine opportunities and challenges in Africa’s oil and gas exploration landscape.

The forum comes at a defining moment as investors worldwide pivot toward sustainable energy sources, with Africa simultaneously being home to vast untapped fossil reserves and critical green minerals like lithium, cobalt, and graphite. For instance, Ghana’s Ewoyaa lithium deal is yet to be passed by parliament, raising fears that delays might cause the resource to be stranded.
The outcomes of AEF 2025 are anticipated to mark a defining moment for Ghana and Africa’s energy sector in the context of the energy transition and developmental goals.
