A significant quantity of narcotic substances has been destroyed in a special operation. The Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service, in collaboration with the Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC), undertook the exercise in a decisive effort to combat drug-related crimes in the country. The operation, supervised by the Accra Circuit Court, saw the burning of 242 sacks of marijuana, 16 kilograms of cocaine, and several buckets of heroin behind the Osu Castle in Accra.
These narcotics had been seized from convicted individuals between 2019 and 2024, following extensive investigations. The destruction of the drugs, is part of a broader strategy by law enforcement to dismantle the networks involved in the illegal drug trade.

Mr. Prosper Kingsley Damankah, the Courts’ Registrar, explained that the narcotics were confiscated from 13 convicted individuals, including three females, across multiple court rulings. The largest haul included 242 fertilizer sacks filled with dried marijuana leaves.The seized drugs were linked to various cases heard by four Circuit Courts.
Mr. Damankah noted that additional narcotics have been seized and are awaiting court orders for destruction.
