Ghana Water Ltd. (GWL) will interrupt the water supply to several communities across the Greater Accra Region for 24 hours, beginning Thursday, July 9, 2026, as it undertakes planned maintenance work at the Dodowa Booster Station to improve the efficiency and reliability of the water distribution system.
The temporary shutdown is expected to impact residential and commercial activity in key economic areas, including East Legon, Madina, Adenta, and other rapidly developing communities that rely on the booster station for their water supply.
In a statement, GWL said the planned exercise forms part of efforts to improve the system’s “operational efficiency, reliability, and sustainability,” adding that the engineering works are intended to strengthen long-term water service delivery rather than address an emergency breakdown.
The utility said customers in the affected areas should expect either a temporary interruption in water supply or reduced water pressure throughout the maintenance period.
Communities expected to be affected include East Legon, Adjiringanor, Ashaley Botwe, Madina, Adenta, Oyarifa, Frafraha, Agbogba, Haatso, Atomic, Ashongman, Dome, Dodowa and adjoining communities supplied by the Dodowa Booster Station.
GWL advised households, institutions and businesses to store adequate water before the shutdown and use available supplies judiciously during the maintenance period to minimise disruptions.
The company indicated that its engineering team would work to complete the exercise within the scheduled 24-hour period and restore the normal water supply immediately after the maintenance is concluded.
Management expressed regret for the inconvenience the planned shutdown may cause, while thanking customers for their patience and cooperation as the company undertakes what it described as “essential maintenance works” to improve the reliability and quality of water service delivery.
