Ghana’s agricultural sector is expected to receive a major international push as Minister for Agriculture, Eric Opoku, leads a high-level delegation to the Canada-Ghana Agribusiness Summit in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada, scheduled for July 14–15, 2025.
Organized by Global Entrepreneurship Network-Ghana (GEN-Ghana) in partnership with Voazok Agritours-Canada, the two-day summit will bring together policymakers, agribusiness entrepreneurs, investors, researchers, and development institutions from both countries to explore innovative ways of accelerating agricultural transformation, improving food security, and promoting sustainable investment in the sector.
The summit will be hosted at Innovation Place, a renowned hub for agricultural technology and innovation in Saskatoon, and will feature keynote addresses, panel discussions, exhibitions, training sessions, and B2B matchmaking forums.
Speaking ahead of the summit, Mr Opoku said, “This summit presents a timely opportunity to strengthen Ghana’s partnership with Canada in promoting modern and inclusive agribusiness. By leveraging the potential of agribusiness, we can stimulate economic growth, enhance food security, and alleviate poverty, ultimately fostering a more prosperous future for both our nations.”
The event will focus on six key objectives: facilitating collaboration, promoting investment, sharing knowledge, supporting capacity building, fostering partnerships, and driving innovation and sustainability. Themed sessions will cover areas such as:
- Agricultural value chain development
- Agro-processing and value addition
- Agri-tech and innovation
- Market access and trade facilitation
- Sustainable agriculture and climate resilience
According to the organizers, the summit provides a critical platform for Ghanaian agribusinesses to showcase their capabilities and explore export opportunities in Canada’s vibrant agriculture market. Participating Ghanaian businesses will have the chance to pitch their products, explore joint ventures, and engage with potential investors in crop production, agro-processing, livestock, and agri-tech.
The Minister’s participation reaffirms Ghana’s commitment to building strategic international partnerships and boosting private sector engagement to support the country’s agricultural modernization agenda. Ghana’s delegation will include key officials from the Ministry of Food and Agriculture, agritech entrepreneurs, commodity exporters, and private sector leaders.
The summit is also expected to drive conversations on climate-smart agriculture, sustainable value chains, and innovation-led growth strategies, positioning Ghana as a rising hub for agribusiness investment in West Africa.
