The Ghana Stock Exchange (GSE) closed Monday with a slight decline as investors traded 1.3 million shares worth about GH¢4.9 million, reflecting a day of cautious trading.
The main index, the GSE Composite Index (GSE-CI), fell by 1.15 points to 8,678.04, showing that while some stock prices dipped, the overall market remains strong with a total company value, or market capitalization, of GH¢168.16 billion.
Even as the financial sector slipped slightly, the market’s strong performance this year, with the GSE-CI up 77.5 percent and the financial index up 90.8 percent since January, shows that investors’ confidence in Ghanaian companies remains high.
Cal Bank rose to GH¢0.50, suggesting steady interest in bank shares, while Ghana Oil Company increased to GH¢2.90, indicating continued demand for energy stocks.
Ecobank edged down to GH¢0.77, hinting at some short-term caution, whereas TotalEnergies gained slightly to GH¢40.37, reflecting stability in the energy sector.
Overall, Monday’s small dips highlight the normal daily shifts in markets. The slight daily changes are normal, and the strong yearly gains suggest that Ghana’s stock market continues to grow in value.
