The Ghana Stock Exchange (GSE) had a lively day on Tuesday, with the main index, the Composite Index (GSE-CI), jumping 178 points to 9,349.89. The Financial Stocks Index (GSE-FSI) fell slightly to 5,027.13, but overall the market is still climbing for the year, up 6.61% and 8.18% respectively, showing steady confidence among investors.
Trading was quieter than Monday, with about 3.6 million shares changing hands, worth GH¢9.24 million, compared to over 10 million shares valued at GH¢46 million the day before. Even so, some companies stole the spotlight.
Benso Palm Plantation (BOPP) led the day, rising GH¢2 to GH¢66, while Fan Milk (FML) added GH¢0.30 to GH¢8.50. GCB Bank (GCB) and Ghana Oil Company (GOIL) also gained, showing that banking and energy stocks are still popular with traders.
Clydestone (CLYD) gained GH¢0.03, SIC Insurance (SIC) rose GH¢0.04, and First Atlantic Bank (FAB) ticked up GH¢0.02 to GH¢7.80. Scancom (MTNGH) was the busiest stock of the day, with almost 1.5 million shares traded, worth GH¢6.53 million, proving that telecom stocks continue to attract attention.
Not all companies moved up. Cal Bank (CAL) slipped GH¢0.01 to GH¢0.80, and Ecobank (ETI) dropped GH¢0.03 to GH¢0.74, showing that some investors are cautious in the financial sector.
Meanwhile, the bond and treasury market was buzzing, with GH¢1.63 billion worth of trades. New Government of Ghana (GoG) notes and bonds were the most active, trading GH¢494.9 million, including a big GH¢160 million trade on the 2030 bond.
Treasury bills for March 2026 exchanged hands for GH¢107.4 million, and corporate bonds, like the CMB bond, traded GH¢2.8 million. Sell/buy-back trades added another GH¢89.94 million, keeping the market busy.
Tuesday’s trading ended on a strong note, with the GSE-CI climbing 178 points to 9,349.89, led by standout stocks and active government securities, reflecting a market in motion and investor confidence.
