President John Dramani Mahama has held bilateral talks with South Korean President Lee Jae-myung, reaffirming the long-standing partnership between Ghana and South Korea while signing new agreements aimed at strengthening economic and technological cooperation.
The meeting resulted in the signing of three Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) covering maritime security, climate change cooperation, and digital technology development, highlighting the commitment of both countries to expand bilateral cooperation.
Speaking during the engagement, President Mahama highlighted the historical ties and shared democratic values that have shaped relations between Ghana and Korea over the decades.

“Our partnership with Korea is built on a shared history of cooperation, democratic values, and a mutual commitment to human rights. These foundations continue to guide the two countries’ collaboration in addressing global challenges and expanding economic opportunities for the people.
The President noted that the two countries have consistently worked together in multilateral institutions, including the United Nations, where they often advance similar positions on global governance and development issues.
Beyond diplomacy, the talks also focused on expanding cooperation in agriculture and agribusiness. President Mahama pointed to ongoing initiatives supported by the Korea International Cooperation Agency aimed at boosting rice production and strengthening food security in Ghana.
He further highlighted Ghana’s strategic role in continental trade through the African Continental Free Trade Area Secretariat based in Accra, describing it as a gateway for Korean businesses seeking access to African markets.

“With the AfCFTA Secretariat hosted in Accra, Ghana is uniquely positioned as a hub for production, trade, and investment targeting the broader African market,” he said.
President Mahama expressed confidence that the combination of Ghana’s natural and human resources with Korea’s technological innovation would drive deeper economic collaboration.
“We believe the blend of Ghana’s resources and Korea’s technological expertise will unlock new opportunities for sustainable growth, industrial development, and shared prosperity between our nations,” he added.
The new agreements are expected to strengthen cooperation in strategic sectors while opening avenues for investment, technology transfer, and expanded trade between Ghana and South Korea.
