Ghana has taken a major step forward in its economic diplomacy, securing a substantial investment pledge from Sheikh Mansour bin Jabor bin Jassim Al Thani, Chairman of Al Mansour Holdings, during an official visit to Qatar. Sheikh Mansour, a member of Qatar’s royal family, committed billions of dollars to support some of President John Mahama’s priority projects.
The ambitious projects include the establishment of a new city, expansion of the western corridor rail network, creation of a gold refinery, implementation of the Volta Economic Corridor under the 24-Hour Initiative, and investments in regional hospitals and airports. This demonstrates a broad-based commitment to both infrastructure and socio-economic development across Ghana.

Foreign Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa highlighted that this pledge reflects strong confidence in Ghana’s investment climate and renewed openness to foreign business collaborations.
He explained, “We have gained an investment commitment from a Qatari investor in President Mahama’s planned new city and rail projects. This represents confidence internationally in Ghana’s agenda for development, and we are doing everything we can to develop a successful economy.”
Al Mansour Holdings is expected to arrive in Accra soon to meet with sector leaders and advance discussions on these transformative projects.
President Mahama has reiterated Ghana’s readiness to welcome investors, stating, “Ghana is open for business again.”
These investments have the potential to become a real stepping stone for faster economic growth, better infrastructure, and regional development.
