The Global Petrol Prices data report has said that Ghana has moved up one spot on the African fuel price ranking, now holding the 12th position for the lowest petrol prices on the continent.
The report shows Ghana’s average petrol price stands at $1.029 per litre, ranking the country 48th globally in terms of fuel affordability. This marks a slight improvement from its 13th place ranking on the continent in previous months.
It said Libya maintained its position as the country with the cheapest fuel in both Africa and the world, with petrol priced at just $0.027 per litre. Angola followed at $0.328, and Egypt came in third at $0.331 per litre.
Other African countries with lower fuel prices than Ghana included Algeria ($0.343), Nigeria ($0.560), Sudan ($0.700), Tunisia ($0.831), Ethiopia ($0.851), and Liberia ($0.871), rounding out the top ten.
However, in Ghana, petrol and diesel prices experienced marginal increases at the start of April. A report by the National Petroleum Authority (NPA) indicated that petrol prices rose by 2%, bringing the price to GH¢15.20 per litre. Diesel also saw a 1.1% uptick, selling at GH¢15.35 per litre.
Nonetheless, there was a slight drop for consumers using Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG), as its price dropped by 0.3%, with a kilogramme now selling at GH¢17.30.
Despite these modest increases at the pump, global crude oil prices have remained relatively low, averaging around $65 per barrel throughout 2025, a factor that may be helping to cushion fuel prices in Ghana and other African nations.
