Ghana will benefit from 2,000 metric tons of fertiliser donated by Morocco as part of an effort to strengthen bilateral cooperation and support national food security. The donation, delivered through Morocco’s state-owned OCP Group, was formally handed over during a ceremony attended by senior Ghanaian officials, development partners, and agriculture stakeholders.
Receiving the consignment on behalf of the Government of Ghana, Deputy Minister for Food and Agriculture, John Dumelo, described the gesture as both symbolic and practical in its impact, especially as the country accelerates efforts under its flagship Feed Ghana Programme.

“This donation is not just a consignment of fertiliser; it is a profound symbol of the strong and enduring relationship between our two nations,” Mr. Dumelo remarked.
He highlighted that the support comes at a crucial time when government is scaling up interventions under the Agriculture for Economic Transformation Agenda (AETA), which aims to improve food and nutrition security, drive agro-industrial growth, and create jobs.
Boosting Smallholder Farmer Productivity
The fertiliser donation is expected to benefit thousands of smallholder farmers cultivating priority staple crops such as maize, rice, soybeans, and vegetables. These crops are central to Ghana’s food self-sufficiency strategy and its ongoing push for import substitution.
“Access to quality fertiliser remains a critical input for smallholder farmers, particularly at a time when government is scaling up distribution to priority production zones across the country,” Mr. Dumelo emphasized.
He assured stakeholders of transparent and efficient distribution, with a focus on high-impact farming zones to ensure maximum returns for the investment.
A Deepening Morocco-Ghana Partnership
The move reinforces growing cooperation between Ghana and Morocco in the agriculture space, with both countries collaborating on fertiliser innovation, irrigation technologies, seed development, and knowledge exchange.
Officials from both sides noted that the fertiliser support builds on a shared commitment to advancing sustainable agriculture, rural development, and climate-resilient food systems.
The Moroccan Ambassador to Ghana, along with other dignitaries, reaffirmed Rabat’s dedication to supporting Ghana’s agricultural transformation through targeted investments and technical cooperation.
In his closing remarks, Deputy Minister Dumelo underscored the government’s ambition to build a resilient agricultural economy.
“Together, we are sowing the seeds of transformation, and together, we will reap the fruits of food security, economic growth, and rural prosperity.”
