Ghana and Germany have completed a five-day capacity-building program for staff of the Ghana Investment Promotion Centre (GIPC), part of efforts to strengthen Ghana’s investment promotion capabilities as it seeks to attract more foreign direct investment.
The workshop, organized by German Development Cooperation through GIZ Ghana in partnership with GIPC, trained 50 officials in investment generation, investor facilitation, aftercare services and stakeholder engagement.
The initiative is aimed at improving Ghana’s ability to attract and retain investors by strengthening the institutions responsible for promoting investment, amid growing competition among African economies for foreign capital.
Speaking at the closing ceremony, Simon Hochstein, Head of Component for Invest for Jobs at GIZ Ghana, said building the capacity of investment promotion professionals is critical to improving investor confidence and supporting economic transformation.

He emphasized “the importance of equipping investment promotion professionals with the knowledge and tools needed to attract quality investments, build investor confidence, and contribute to Ghana’s economic transformation.”
The workshop also encouraged collaboration across GIPC’s departments, highlighting the role of coordinated institutional support in improving the investor experience and positioning Ghana as an attractive destination for investment.
German Development Cooperation said the program reflects its commitment to strengthening Ghana’s private sector by building capable institutions and developing the skills needed to support investment-led growth.
The training was conducted under the Invest for Jobs initiative, part of Germany’s Special Initiative “Decent Work for a Just Transition,” funded by the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and implemented by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH in collaboration with GIPC.
The program forms part of broader cooperation between Ghana and Germany to strengthen the investment ecosystem through institutional reforms, skills development and closer public-private collaboration.
