President John Dramani Mahama will host Gabonese President Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema in Accra from July 28 to 30 for an official visit expected to strengthen economic cooperation, expand trade and investment ties, and explore new partnerships across key productive sectors of both economies.
The visit is expected to place economic diplomacy at the centre of bilateral discussions, with the two countries set to review existing cooperation while identifying new opportunities in trade and investment, mining, energy, agriculture, forestry, fisheries, maritime affairs, transport and tourism, according to a statement from the Presidency.
President Oligui Nguema will arrive in Ghana with a high-level delegation comprising government ministers, senior officials and members of the Gabonese business community, highlighting a strong commercial dimension to the visit and creating opportunities for business-to-business engagement alongside government-level discussions.
The two Heads of State will hold a private tête-à-tête before leading official bilateral talks at the Jubilee House on July 28.
According to the Presidency, the discussions will seek to identify “new areas of cooperation” beyond existing partnerships, with both governments also expected to examine collaboration in education, health, defence and security, environmental protection, climate action and people-to-people exchanges.
The two leaders are also expected to reaffirm their commitment to “deepening bilateral cooperation” while promoting sustainable economic development that delivers mutual benefits for both countries.
The visit comes as Ghana continues to pursue stronger commercial relations across Africa under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), while Gabon is advancing economic reforms aimed at attracting investment, expanding value addition and strengthening regional partnerships. President Oligui Nguema has in recent months intensified high-level economic diplomacy, using state visits to promote investment, infrastructure development and international partnerships.
The Presidency described the visit as a “watershed moment” in Ghana-Gabon relations, reflecting both countries’ intention to broaden cooperation beyond traditional diplomatic engagement and into sectors that support economic transformation and sustainable growth.
