The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has successfully distributed 8,463 chip-embedded passports across the country since the launch of the Reset Passport Reforms on April 28, 2025.
Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa announced the development in a Facebook post emphasizing the efficiency and accessibility of the new system.

“An impressive 8,463 Ghanaians have conveniently received their new chip-embedded passports across the country via courier without paying extra charges since our April 28, 2025 Reset Passport Reforms,” he wrote.
The reforms are part of a broader government strategy to streamline passport acquisition and delivery processes, reducing the stress and delays historically associated with passport issuance in the country. The new chip-embedded passports feature enhanced security elements, aligning Ghana with international e-passport standards.
Official data from the Passport Head Office corroborates the figures, reinforcing the administration’s commitment to transparency and service delivery.
The Ministry highlighted that the successful rollout is a reflection of its dedication to transforming public service systems through technology and customer-centric innovations.
“Mahama’s government is here to serve you diligently, and to keep our pledges to you,” Ablakwa added in his statement, underscoring the government’s resolve to deliver on its promises with integrity and efficiency.

The delivery of passports via courier at no additional cost is being hailed as a customer-friendly innovation, especially beneficial to applicants in remote areas who traditionally faced logistical hurdles accessing passport offices.
As Ghana embraces digital transformation in public services, the chip-embedded passport initiative marks a forward-looking step in enhancing national identity systems, security, and citizen convenience.
