The Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL) has said it is untrue, the viral claim alleging the sale of “lost or forgotten bags” at Kotoka International Airport (KIA) to support a charity event, being circulated on social media.
The company statement emphasized that the claim was completely false and intended to mislead the public and, therefore, urged the public to disregard the misinformation while reassuring travellers of its commitment to safeguarding their interests.
GACL clarified that it has verified social media channels for disseminating information and has not authorized any third-party entities to communicate on its behalf.
This clarification comes in response to a growing trend of misinformation that could potentially harm the reputation of the airport and mislead travellers.
The company has maintained that it is dedicated to ensuring that all communications regarding airport operations are accurate and trustworthy. GACL said it is committed to protecting the travelling public’s interests, emphasizing that any claims not originating from their verified channels should be treated with scepticism.
It said it aims to maintain transparency and uphold its responsibility as the operator of Ghana’s primary international airport.
The false claims about lost luggage sales highlight ongoing concerns regarding the management of unclaimed baggage at KIA.
In recent months, there have been reports of missing items from travellers’ luggage, prompting GACL to address these issues proactively.
The company has committed to investigating these incidents thoroughly and implementing measures to enhance security and prevent future occurrences.
Travelers are encouraged to stay informed through GACL’s official communication channels for updates on airport operations and policies. The company is focused on providing quality service and ensuring that passengers feel secure while travelling through KIA.
