Ghana’s efforts to strengthen productivity and scale up sustainable agribusiness has received a boost as Ghana Enterprises Agency (GEA) officially took delivery of 100 laptops and 30 car tyres from the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). The equipment forms part of the project “Expanding the Kaizen Initiative by Enhancing Sustainable Agribusiness,” which is supporting the national rollout of the Kaizen continuous-improvement model.
Speaking on behalf of the sector minister, Deputy Minister Sampson Ahi described the donation as a “direct and practical investment in Ghana’s productivity agenda.” He said Kaizen remains central to efforts to raise efficiency across agribusiness and enhance Ghana’s competitiveness. “The digital divide is a development divide,” he noted. “We cannot prepare our businesses for the future without equipping the institutions that support them with the right tools. Today, we are not just receiving hardware; we are receiving a catalyst for growth.”
The handover ceremony, held at the GEA premises in Accra , brought together senior officials from GEA, UNIDO, JICA, AUDA-NEPAD and the Ministry of Trade, Agribusiness and Industry.
He added that strengthening GEA’s operational capacity directly benefits the country’s micro, small and medium enterprises, which he described as “the bedrock of our economy.” He encouraged the agency’s staff to fully utilise the resources to expand the reach and impact of the Kaizen programme.
GEA Chief Executive Officer Marget Ansei expressed appreciation to the Japanese government and its development partners, saying the support would significantly enhance the agency’s technical capabilities and its nationwide outreach to SMEs.
Japanese Ambassador to Ghana, Hiroshi Yoshimoto, said the gesture reflects Japan’s continued commitment to Ghana even as the current Kaizen project winds down. He noted that the cooperation extends well beyond the symbolic transfer of
equipment. “Kaizen looks ahead to even stronger cooperation between our two countries,” he said.
AUDA-NEPAD representative Kossi Tulassi commended GEA for sustaining its focus on SME development, adding that the agency’s leadership has played a key role in advancing productivity improvement across the country.
The presentation marks a renewed step in Ghana’s productivity and agribusiness transformation drive, with the equipment formally received on behalf of the Government of Ghana and the GEA.
