A delegation from The Gambia National Youth Service Scheme (NYSS) has paid a second official visit to Ghana’s National Service Authority (NSA), seeking operational and technical guidance to develop a comprehensive national youth service model back home.
Led by NYSS Executive Director Mr. Abass Bah, the team included Principal Accountant Edward Bishop Wright, Project Assistant Adama Beyai, and Deputy Director Mustapha Barbie. The visit, held today in Accra, signals The Gambia’s commitment to replicating a structured service programme that supports graduates, school dropouts, and young professionals.
Mr. Bah noted that this visit builds on an earlier mission in 2024, which he undertook with Gambia’s Minister for Youth and Sports.
“We are here to learn how you do it. How you enrol, deploy, monitor, and support your service personnel. We are especially interested in how Ghana’s NSA engages different categories of youth and sustains a transparent, effective programme. The lessons we gather will go a long way in shaping a more inclusive and dynamic National Youth Service Scheme in The Gambia,” he said.

Welcoming the delegation, NSA Director-General Felix Gyamfi assured them of Ghana’s support, saying,“Our doors are always open to partnerships that promote youth empowerment. We are happy to share our structure, policy direction, and implementation experiences with The Gambia,” he said.
NSA’s Assistant Director for Deployment, Yaw Tweneboah Kodua, provided presentations on Ghana’s three-pronged deployment model, General Enrolment for university graduates, Nurses Enrolment for licensed nursing graduates, and Teachers Enrolment for verified education graduates. He explained that institutions submit class lists to the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC), after which NSA issues unique 13-character PIN codes for registration and deployment.

“Orientation is a critical part of the process. It helps the youth understand their role in national development while shaping their career path,” Mr. Kodua said, adding that the NSA also maintains robust monitoring systems, structured allowance payments, and grievance resolution mechanisms.
The Gambian delegation commended the NSA for its operational depth and pledged to apply the knowledge gained to design a youth service framework that contributes to national development in The Gambia.
