The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration has warned the public against rising cases of misinformation and fraudulent activities targeting individuals seeking consular services.
In a statement issued on August 18, the Ministry stressed that official information is available only through its website, accredited media outlets, and verified social media platforms. It cautioned that submitting forged documents or engaging unauthorised agents constitutes a criminal offence and will be reported to law enforcement.
The public has been advised to deal strictly with designated officers at the Ministry or Ghana’s accredited missions abroad to avoid scams.
As part of efforts to improve transparency, the Ministry also outlined procedures and fees for key consular services:
- Attestation/Legalisation of Documents: GH¢200, processed within 5 working days.
- Travel Certificate: GH¢200, processed in 2–3 working days.
- Laissez-Passer: GH¢200, processed in 2–3 working days.
Applicants for a Laissez-Passer must provide an application letter, parental consent (if required), vehicle registration details, a copy of their Ghana Card or passport bio-data page, and the driver’s passport bio-data page. Payments must be made in cash at designated points within the Ministry, with receipts presented for processing.
Travel Certificate applicants are required to submit the bio-data page of a valid or expired passport, two passport-sized photographs, a flight itinerary, and a signed application letter. The Ministry further urged applicants to confirm with airlines whether travel certificates are accepted before applying.
Reaffirming its commitment to efficient, transparent, and client-friendly services, the Ministry encouraged the public to report suspicious activities through official channels.
