Several communities across the Accra East Region are experiencing a temporary power outage following a fire outbreak on an earthing transformer at the Achimota Bulk Supply Point (BSP), the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has announced.
The incident, which occurred early Sunday, has disrupted electricity supply to a wide range of areas including Achimota, North Industrial Area, Kaneshie, Kokomlemle, Asylum Down, Pig Farm, Kotobabi, Circle, Adabraka, New Town, Nima, Gimpa, Keseiman, and the University of Ghana Medical Centre (UGMC).
In a public notice issued by ECG, the company assured residents and businesses that engineers are working urgently to rectify the fault and have committed to restoring full power supply by 2:00 p.m. today, Sunday, May 4, 2025.

“The Electricity Company of Ghana, Accra East Region, wishes to inform its cherished customers and the general public that the outage being experienced is a result of a fire outbreak on the earthing transformer at the Achimota Bulk Supply Point,” the statement read.
The company expressed regret for the inconvenience caused and reiterated its commitment to resolving the issue as quickly as possible.
Residents and businesses in the affected areas have been advised to take necessary precautions until power is restored.
