The Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MoFA) has distributed 25,000 bags of fertiliser to 413 schools nationwide under the Feed Ghana Programme, in a renewed effort to enhance the minor crop production season and strengthen food security.
According to the statement from the Ministry, the fertiliser distribution is aimed at boosting yields on school farms, particularly those managed by primary, junior high, and senior high schools. The initiative seeks to promote food and nutrition security while encouraging youth participation in agriculture.
The Deputy Feed Ghana Coordinator for Institutional Farming is supervising the distribution process to ensure all beneficiary schools receive their allocations promptly.
The Ministry emphasized that the timely application of the fertiliser is critical to achieving optimal productivity during the ongoing planting season.
“This effort forms part of the government’s Agriculture for Economic Transformation Agenda (AETA), which focuses on building food self-sufficiency and empowering young people through agribusiness,” the statement noted.
By integrating school-based farming into national agricultural development, the government aims to create sustainable food systems, instill practical farming skills among students, and reduce reliance on imported food supplies.
The Feed Ghana Programme was launched by President Mahama in April 2025 to enhance food security across the country.
