Global energy company Eni has released its latest sustainability report titled “Eni for 2024: A Just Transition”, presenting the company’s key progress and strategies to support a more sustainable and inclusive energy future.

Now in its nineteenth edition, the voluntary report outlines how Eni is aligning industrial growth with environmental responsibility and social development. It details progress made in reducing emissions, expanding renewable energy, and investing in community-focused initiatives across the 21 countries where it operates.
“In 2024, we continued on our path of transformation and achieved concrete results,” said Claudio Descalzi, Eni’s Chief Executive Officer. “The ability to anticipate and respond to global change through innovation and sustainability is what defines us.”

Major Emissions Reductions and Renewable Energy Expansion
Eni reported a 55 percent drop in net Scope 1 and 2 emissions from upstream operations and a 37 percent overall decline compared to 2018. The company reaffirmed its goal to nearly eliminate methane emissions by 2030 and plans to achieve water positivity at 30 percent of sites in water-stressed areas by 2035.
Through its renewables and electric mobility business, Plenitude, Eni reached more than 4 gigawatts of installed capacity in 2024. The unit now serves 10 million customers worldwide and operates over 21,000 charging points for electric vehicles. Eni aims to grow Plenitude’s renewable capacity to 15 gigawatts by 2030.
Enilive, Eni’s mobility-focused business, expanded its biofuel operations to reach 1.65 million tonnes of refining capacity this year. The company is targeting more than 5 million tonnes by 2030, including the production of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF).
Technology, Inclusion and Social Impact
Eni continues to drive innovation by investing in high-performance computing and emerging technologies. In 2024, it commissioned the HPC6 supercomputer and launched Eniquantic, a new initiative focused on quantum computing.
The company is also transforming legacy operations to align with its energy transition goals. This includes converting the Livorno refinery into a biorefinery and repositioning Versalis, its chemical business, for long-term financial and environmental sustainability.
Eni’s Just Transition strategy remains rooted in respect for human rights, safety and social inclusion. In 2024, the company strengthened its actions against gender-based violence and partnered with global organizations such as the International Labour Organization and the International Finance Corporation to improve labor conditions in the agricultural supply chain.

Investing in Communities and Reporting Transparently
Eni continues to invest in communities where it operates through over 100 local development projects. These focus on improving access to clean water, healthcare, energy, and education. The initiatives align with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and reflect the company’s commitment to shared value.
In addition to meeting new EU sustainability reporting requirements under the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD), Eni has chosen to continue publishing its “Eni for” report to provide stakeholders with accessible, detailed insights and real-world examples of its sustainability journey.
