West African Regional Country Director of the Consumer Unity and Trust Society, CUTS International, has pledged to advocate and champion consumer protection and market fairness in the operations of the Ghana Standard Authority (GSA) following his appointment to the governing board of the Ghana Standards Authority (GSA).
The appointment to the newly constituted Governing Board of the GSA, Lawyer Appiah Kusi Adomako believes, signals a significant step toward strengthening consumer protection and welfare in Ghana’s regulatory landscape.
He further states that the inclusion represents not just a personal milestone but a broader recognition of CUTS International’s sustained advocacy for consumer rights, fair competition, and market transparency.

For over a decade, the policy think tank has played a key role in shaping evidence-based reforms across consumer protection, trade, and economic regulation in Ghana and the sub-region.
Expressing appreciation for the recognition and the new role, Appiah Kusi Adomako noted that he is committed to ensuring that the operations of the GSA protect consumer safety and fairness in a manner that contributes to the overall development.
“I wish to commit that we will work together to enhance the work of the Ghana Standards Authority, working with the management and staff of the Authority. I believe that protecting the safety of consumers, supporting industry, and contributing to the country’s development is our key priority. Together with my colleagues on the board, we will work towards that,” he noted.
“This appointment is a recognition of the work of CUTS International, Accra, in advancing consumer welfare and promoting a fair, transparent and competitive marketplace that benefits both consumers and producers,” Adomako added.

The Minister for Trade, Industry and Agribusiness, Hon. Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare, who inaugurated the 13-member board, stressed the need for standard harmonization under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), noting that such alignment will not only boost trade but also enhance quality assurance and consumer safety across borders.
CUTS’ representation on the GSA board is especially timely, as Ghana faces evolving challenges in product quality, digital commerce, and consumer data protection. With its rich expertise in consumer advocacy and regulatory engagement, CUTS is expected to inject a strong consumer-focused lens into the GSA’s strategic direction.

The board, chaired by Mr. Hudu Mogtari, includes representatives from industry, science, academia, and various regulatory agencies. Its collective mandate is to provide oversight that strengthens GSA’s mission of standardization, quality assurance, and protection of the public interest.
