Organisations across Ghana’s public and private sectors are stepping up efforts to strengthen their digital systems as cyber threats targeting governments, financial institutions and critical infrastructure continue to increase globally.
In response to the growing threat landscape, Cloudflare, a global connectivity and cybersecurity company, in partnership with its West African partner Comsec Technology Solutions, organised a three-day cybersecurity seminar series in Accra.
The initiative aimed to strengthen cyber resilience and help protect Ghana’s rapidly expanding digital economy from sophisticated cyberattacks, including large-scale Distributed Denial-of-Service (DDoS) attacks.
A statement issued by the organisers said the seminar formed part of ongoing efforts to support organisations in improving their cybersecurity frameworks and protecting critical digital infrastructure.
It noted that Cloudflare had also expanded its global network infrastructure by establishing network nodes in Accra to support faster, more reliable and secure internet services in Ghana and across the wider West African region.
The nodes are designed to help detect and mitigate cyber threats closer to their source, thereby improving the ability of organisations to defend their digital platforms against potential attacks.
The seminar brought together industry leaders, technology professionals and key decision-makers from institutions that play important roles in Ghana’s digital economy.
Participants included representatives from financial institutions, government agencies, telecommunications companies and other essential service providers.
Officials from the Cyber Security Authority also participated in the seminar and emphasised the importance of stronger collaboration between government institutions, international technology companies and local industry stakeholders.
They highlighted the need to build a coordinated cybersecurity ecosystem to support efforts to create a safer and more secure digital environment in Ghana.
During the sessions, cybersecurity specialists shared insights on the evolving global cyber threat landscape and the increasing sophistication of cyberattacks.
Particular attention was given to the rising incidence of Distributed Denial-of-Service attacks, which are designed to overwhelm and disrupt online platforms and services.
Experts also demonstrated modern and automated approaches for protecting web applications, application programming interfaces and other internet-facing systems from such threats.
Technology specialists from Comsec Technology Solutions provided practical insights into how organisations in Ghana could implement effective cybersecurity strategies within the local operating environment.
They also shared case studies of organisations that had strengthened their digital security frameworks to withstand emerging cyber threats.
Mr Boaz Alon, Chief Executive Officer of Comsec Technology Solutions, said cybersecurity had evolved beyond a purely information technology issue to become a critical pillar for business continuity and national trust.
He said initiatives such as the seminar series helped combine global cybersecurity expertise with local implementation knowledge to ensure organisations in Ghana remain resilient against cyber threats.
Mr Graham Turnbull, Account Executive at Cloudflare, noted that strengthening partnerships and investing in local digital infrastructure would help Ghanaian organisations defend against increasingly sophisticated cyberattacks while ensuring their digital services remain secure and accessible.
