The Civil Service Council is seeking closer coordination with economic ministries as part of efforts to improve public sector performance and support industrial growth, following a visit to the Ministry of Trade, Agribusiness and Industry.
The delegation, led by Chairman Lawrence Kannea, met officials at the ministry to discuss collaboration and strategies to enhance service delivery under the government’s broader reform agenda.
Deputy Trade Minister Sampson Ahi said the civil service and government must work jointly to drive economic development, highlighting the ministry’s role in investment promotion and industrial policy. He called for greater professionalism and fairness within the public service, while emphasizing the need to expand exports and create sustainable jobs.
Ahi said transforming Ghana’s industrial base remains central to economic policy, urging the council to support civil servants to deliver more effectively. He also commended ministry staff for supporting the government’s agenda, describing their role as critical to implementing policy.
Chief Director Noah Tumfo said the ministry employs more than 350 staff and operates across nine international missions, reflecting its role in trade promotion and policy coordination. He added that the ministry is finalizing a new agribusiness policy aimed at strengthening the sector.
Kannea said the ministry remains a key driver of economic growth, adding that reforms underway in the public sector will require coordinated efforts across institutions. He praised the ministry’s leadership and staff, highlighting the importance of collaboration in delivering results.
Head of the Civil Service Evans Aggrey-Darkoh framed the reforms as part of a broader shift toward industrialization. ” We want to change the Guggisberg economy and industrialized to create wealth and employment”. “We are also here to as part of the visit to ensure that Public Bureaucracy delivers and the nation develop” he emphasized.
