Ghana’s 2025 budget will see a significant reduction in government expenditure compared to the 2024 fiscal year, the Minister of Finance, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, has assured.
Speaking ahead of the budget presentation, Dr. Forson said on X space that, the government was taking bold steps to cut down on excessive spending while ensuring efficient allocation of resources to critical sectors such as health, education, and infrastructure.
“This year’s budget will reflect our commitment to fiscal discipline and prudent financial management. We are making strategic cuts to reduce waste while prioritizing essential services and economic growth,” he said.
He was optimistic and confident that the upcoming budget would see a drop in expenditure as compared to 2024. “Expect a drop in the budget”, he added.
The assurance came when a citizen asked a question and raised concerns over Ghana’s rising public debt and called for the government to adopt a more sustainable approach to managing the economy.
In 2024, government spending reached peak levels due to various social intervention programs, infrastructure projects, and debt servicing duties.
However, Dr. Forson indicated that the 2025 budget will focus on streamlining expenditures, enhancing revenue generation, and creating a more stable economic environment.
He also reassured citizens that the spending cuts would not affect key social interventions that benefit the vulnerable.
The 2025 budget is set to be presented to Parliament tomorrow, Tuesday, March 11, 2025.
