Anny Osabutey, spokesperson for the Chale Wote Street Art Festival, told The High Street Journal that a key objective of the festival is to provide young artists with a platform to showcase their talents and works to the world. He said while many artists are producing outstanding work, they often lack the resources and networks to exhibit their art, even at local events. The festival, therefore, serves as a vital opportunity for emerging talents to gain recognition, including on an international level.
The Chale Wote Festival is set to begin on Monday, August 19, in the historic township of Osu, Ghana. The week-long event will kick off with a “Day of Remembrance Procession,” starting at 3 p.m. from the Christiansborg Castle. This spiritual and solemn procession, traditionally led by the Chief Priest, will include the pouring of libations as a gesture of gratitude.

Mr. Osabutey explained that the festival not only showcases Ghana’s rich cultural heritage but also positions the country as a hub for diverse artistic expressions. He noted that several young artists have gained exposure through the festival, with some being invited to display their works at international exhibitions.
This year’s festival theme, “And Now An End to the Empire of Horrors,” will feature artistic works that reflect on the times before the battle of Guinea in Edina. Patrons are encouraged to participate in the procession dressed in all white, symbolizing peace, reflection, and new beginnings, Mr Osabutey said.

The Chale Wote Festival, which is internationally acclaimed and held annually, brings together artists, performers, and the community to celebrate African culture, history, and resilience. The event is expected to draw significant local and international attention, aligning with global movements focused on reclaiming and celebrating indigenous histories and identities.

Throughout the week, contemporary artists will exhibit their work, selected and curated by the event organizers. As an economic force, the festival also presents an opportunity for businesses to promote their brands and connect with potential investors and customers among the large number of attendees.
