The Bank of Ghana (BoG) turned into a playground of learning and laughter on Friday as more than 250 pupils from five schools thronged the Bank Square to celebrate the Cedi@60 anniversary in grand style.
The school kids from Independence Avenue Basic School (1 & 2), St. George’s Anglican Basic School, Bishop Mixed Basic School, Accra Sempe School, and St. Barnabas Basic School spent the day learning about the history, value, and evolution of the Ghana cedi, while enjoying a festival of fun activities, music, and games.

The curious minds explored the story of Ghana’s currency, from the early years of independence to the modern-day notes and coins in their pockets.
The event blended education with excitement, helping the young learners appreciate why the cedi matters to their daily lives and the nation’s economy.

Governor Dr. Johnson Asiama, joined by his deputies Dr. Zakari Mumuni and Mrs. Matilda Asante-Asiedu, shared words of encouragement with the pupils, urging them to study hard and dream big.
The governors re-echoed to them that they are the future of the country, adding that understanding the nation’s currency is part of understanding its identity and heritage.

The day ended with music, dancing, lunch, and smiles all around. For many of the school kids, it was a perfect mix of joy and inspiration. For others, it wasn’t just a fun day out; it was a memorable lesson in patriotism and pride, as they left Bank Square with a deeper appreciation for the cedi, and for the bright future it represents.
This initiative forms part of the lined activities for the Bank of Ghana’s Cedi@60Anniversary celebrations.

The anniversary, the Central Bank says, will be used as a springboard to deepen citizens’ understanding of the cedi and how valuing the currency can impact their lives and the economy at large.
Such educative but fun events are expected to be held a various parts of the country to enhance understanding about the country’s currency.
