Cassava Technologies, a global technology leader of African heritage, has announced major progress on its plan to build Africa’s first network-based GPU-as-a-Service (GPUaaS) platform, a milestone that positions the continent to compete in the global artificial intelligence (AI) landscape.
As the first preferred NVIDIA Cloud Partner (NCP) in Africa, Cassava is rolling out secure data centre facilities across South Africa, Nigeria, Kenya, Egypt, and Morocco. The initiative aims to make advanced AI computing capacity accessible to African businesses, governments, and researchers, reinforcing the company’s reputation for delivering world-class digital infrastructure across the continent.
“Cassava’s commitment to growing Africa’s AI ecosystem is not just about technology; it’s about empowerment. Securing the position as the first preferred NVIDIA Cloud Partner in Africa enables us to play a crucial role in the continent’s AI ecosystem. At Cassava, we want to enable African businesses to emerge as leaders and innovators in AI, not just consumers. We want to empower Africa to write our own AI future, in our own languages, with our own data using local compute infrastructure,” said Hardy Pemhiwa, President & Group CEO of Cassava Technologies.
The deployment of high-performance computing infrastructure within Africa represents a strategic shift in how the continent accesses and applies AI technology. By localising compute power, Cassava’s GPUaaS model allows entrepreneurs, public institutions, and private enterprises to build and deploy AI solutions more efficiently, securely, and affordably.
The company says its GPUaaS network will democratise access to advanced computing capabilities, enabling local innovation in sectors such as healthcare, agriculture, education, and financial services. It also addresses a long-standing challenge in Africa’s digital development, the reliance on offshore data centres that often limit data sovereignty and increase costs.
By delivering world-class compute capacity locally, Cassava Technologies aims to transform Africa from a consumer of AI innovation into a creator within the global digital economy. The initiative aligns with Cassava’s broader purpose of “enabling a digitally connected future that leaves no African behind,” reflecting the company’s mission to drive inclusive digital transformation across the continent.
