AngloGold Ashanti Obuasi Mine has donated a Caterpillar generator set to the Obuasi Divisional Command of the Ghana Police Service to strengthen security operations in the Adansi enclave.
The donation forms part of the company’s ongoing efforts to support security institutions and promote a safe environment for businesses and residents in the municipality.
Speaking at a brief presentation ceremony in Obuasi, Mr Edmund Oduro, Community Relations Manager of the Mine, reaffirmed the company’s commitment to enhancing security and protecting lives and property within its operational area.
He noted that the Mine’s support for the Police Service had translated into strategic investments over the years to improve operational capacity and response to crime.
Mr Oduro recalled that in 2019, the company donated pick-up vehicles to improve police mobility and enable rapid response to security incidents.
In 2024, it also constructed a modern police station at New Bediem to enhance community policing and improve access to law enforcement services.
He explained that the newly donated generator set would ensure uninterrupted power supply at the Divisional Command, thereby improving efficiency and continuity in police operations.
According to him, the intervention aligns with the Mine’s 10-year socio-economic development plan, under which security enhancement has been identified as a key priority area.
Chief Superintendent Kwasi Boahen, Obuasi Divisional Police Commander, expressed appreciation to the Mine for what he described as timely and sustained support.
He said the generator would significantly improve operational effectiveness, particularly during power outages, and reaffirmed the Police Service’s commitment to maintaining law and order in the municipality.
Chief Superintendent Boahen also encouraged other businesses operating in Obuasi to partner with the Police Service to further strengthen security in the area.
