The Association of Ghana Industries (AGI), Tema Region and the Tema Development Corporation (TDC) have reaffirmed their commitment to strategic collaboration, outlining plans to jointly address key regulatory and infrastructural challenges in the Tema industrial enclave.
This renewed cooperation follows a courtesy call by AGI leadership on the newly appointed TDC Managing Director, Mr. Courage Kweku Makafui Nunekpeku, at the corporation’s offices in Tema. The engagement centered on ways to enhance the business environment, streamline regulatory processes, and improve service delivery.
During the meeting, AGI highlighted several pressing concerns affecting businesses in the area, including delays in permit approvals, inefficient ground rent administration, and deteriorating sanitation and infrastructure in the heavy industrial zones, particularly the corridor stretching from the VALCO roundabout to the TOR enclave.
AGI’s leadership underscored the association’s readiness to act as a liaison between industry players and regulatory institutions, aiming to facilitate smoother compliance and more efficient service provision. The association also recommended that TDC participates in quarterly industry meetings organized by AGI to promote ongoing engagement and clarify regulatory responsibilities.
TDC, in turn, welcomed the outreach and stressed its commitment to rebuilding trust with stakeholders while strengthening its mandate in urban development and land management. The corporation acknowledged the importance of addressing ageing infrastructure, especially Tema’s sewage systems, and expressed interest in joining AGI’s network to benefit from advocacy support and policy collaboration.
The AGI delegation included Regional Chairman Dr. Eddie Akwetey, Vice Chair Madam Adobea Asiama-Aboagye, Regional Treasurer Dr. Charles Atuahene, Mr. William Darko of Riepco Engineering Ltd., Madam Veronica (Tema Regional Manager), and Mr. Humphrey Jojo Quayson, Senior Public and International Relations Manager. They were received by Mr. Nunekpeku and Madam Dorothy, Head of Corporate Planning and Communication at TDC.
The meeting concluded with a shared commitment to deeper collaboration, with both institutions expressing interest in establishing joint platforms to resolve industry-wide issues through ongoing dialogue.
