The Advertising Association of Ghana has embarked on a campaign to push for the next government to pass the pending Advertising Council Bill, as part of efforts to improve standards, practices, and regulations of the advertising and marketing industry
Ghana goes to the polls come December 7, for the crucial 2024 Presidential and Parliamentary Elections. Ahead of the elections, the Advertising Association of Ghana is calling on whoever emerges as president to prioritize the passage of the bill to improve the advertising industry.
The President of the Association, Andrew Ackah, said the country’s advertising and marketing industry cannot rub shoulders with its peers due to the lack of a bill that will regulate practitioners and also protect the investment of industry players.
As a matter of priority, the President of the Association is demanding the next government review and pass the bill in haste to stream activities of the industry.
“This is a big call from the association and from all members of the marketing communication, and advertising industry to the next government that bill is very important for us to review and pass,” the President said at the Annual General Meeting of the Association.
He added that, “If you want to join the league of other countries who have actually done tremendously well, it is very important that we protect the interest of those who are investing in the advertising industry by passing this bill and institute a body as a regulator.”
This renewed call comes after the current administration failed to pass the bill despite calls by the association on President Akufo-Addo to pass the draft bill.
Among other things, the bill is expected to regulate the proliferation of billboards in the country. The association says the lack of a proper regulatory regime has led to scattered billboards in major cities which sometimes block traffic.
