Travellers arriving at and departing from Accra International Airport are now being greeted by a refreshed and more visually striking frontage, following the completion of a key signage upgrade by the Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL).
Management of GACL confirmed that refurbishment works on the main frontage signage comprising repainting and restoration of the prominent “Accra International Airport” inscription have been successfully completed, marking another step in efforts to improve passenger experience and uphold the airport’s image.

The project was finalised in the early hours of today after work extended slightly beyond the initial schedule.
According to GACL, the execution strategy was carefully designed to avoid disruption to airport operations and passenger movement. The works were undertaken exclusively at night after the departure of the last flight given the height of the installation and its location near the airport’s busy car park enclave.

“The work was carried out at night due to the height of the installation and its proximity to the car park area, to ensure that the travelling public and airport users were not inconvenienced,” Management stated.
The refreshed signage now presents a more polished and welcoming outlook, aligning with the airport’s broader positioning as a key transit and business gateway into Ghana and the sub-region.

While such upgrades may appear routine, they play a critical role in shaping first impressions for international travellers, investors, and business visitors. Airport aesthetics, particularly at arrival and departure points, are increasingly viewed as part of a country’s soft infrastructure, contributing to perceptions of efficiency, order, and national pride.
The signage works form part of a series of incremental operational improvements being rolled out by GACL to sustain service quality and infrastructure standards. These upgrades come at a time when competition among African airports is intensifying, with countries investing heavily in modern facilities to attract airlines and passenger traffic.
Managing Director of GACL, Yvonne Nana Afriyie Opare, reaffirmed the company’s commitment to continuous improvement, assuring passengers and stakeholders that management remains focused on enhancing both functionality and customer experience across all touchpoints.
She emphasised that feedback from passengers and airport users remains central to the company’s improvement strategy, noting that GACL will continue to respond proactively to public concerns while upgrading critical infrastructure.
The completion of the signage upgrade, though modest in scale, signals a sustained attention to detail, an approach aviation analysts say is essential for maintaining competitiveness and reinforcing Ghana’s ambition to position Accra as a preferred aviation and business hub in West Africa.
