The Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MoFA) has assured poultry farmers of a ready market under the “Nkoko Nketenkete” initiative to boost local poultry production.
Mr Owusu Banahene, Sunyani Municipal Director of MoFA, said government was collaborating with key players in the poultry value chain to develop storage and processing facilities to support market access for farmers.
He said the pilot phase of the programme had distributed 10,000 birds to 200 registered farmers in the municipality, with each receiving 50 chicks.
Mr Banahene explained that government was engaging off-takers and financial institutions to ensure sustainable market linkages for beneficiaries.
He added that the agriculture directorate was providing technical support, including feeding and medication, to help farmers raise the birds successfully.
Mr Banahene urged beneficiaries to properly manage the birds to maximise the benefits of the programme.
He said plans were underway to invest in cold room facilities under the Feed Ghana initiative to strengthen storage capacity and reduce post-production losses.
Mr Banahene noted that the programme was critical to increasing the supply of quality local poultry products and reducing reliance on imports.
He called for expedited action on the construction of cold storage facilities and urged programme coordinators to intensify monitoring and engagement with farmers.
