One of the priorities of The New Force Movement is to build significant reserves for the country’s gold, oil, and food to make the country resilient in times of shock.
Nana Kwame Bediako, the leader of the political movement says it’s a shame that a country like Ghana with its abundance of precious minerals, oil, and agricultural resources cannot boast of significant reserves in these commodities.
He cannot fathom why countries like Qatar, and the UK among others are keeping the lion’s share of the world’s gold reserves while a country like Ghana which has mined gold for centuries cannot boast of any significant gold reserves.
The lack of gold reserves to back the economy has made Ghana very susceptible to internal and external shocks. But Nana Kwame Bediako has pledged to build a resilient economy with the country’s locally mined gold.
If elected, it is his vision for the state to venture into hard rock mining where the first 200 tons will be kept as reserves.
Checks by The High Street Journal reveal that the value of the 200 tons of gold using current prices on the international market is estimated at a little over US$16 billion.
Speaking during a virtual launch of his vision for the country on Sunday, September 1, he said “we are a nation of 33 million people. What have we prepared for our future? Where are our oil reserves? Where are our gold reserves? Up until recently, we had only 7 tons in our Central Bank and you have the likes of the multi-national companies like the Goldfields moving 300s of tons from this country we can only have 7 tons?”
“What is it going to cost us to build our own hard rock mining? To go for the target, I want to take the first 200 tons as reserves in this country. I will do whatever it takes because I already have the gold on the ground,” he pledged.
To ensure that the country attains food security and is also positioned to feed other countries, Nana Kwame Bediako further announced an ambitious seedling bank. With this vision, he is optimistic that the nations can be assured of food security for 100 years.
“The food we eat every day is a basic necessity and if you can have that, you have the opportunity and power to feed the world. We intend to build the biggest seedling bank and have food security for 100 years. It is called Agro Reserves. That is what we need, we will nurture this, we would actually feed this,” the leader of The New Force Movement pledged.
