The government has emphasized the importance of women’s empowerment and inclusive governance, stressing that Ghana’s long-term development objectives and institutional growth depend on the full participation of women in leadership and decision-making positions.
Speaking on behalf of Vice President Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang at the 5th Annual Leadership Conference of the Ghana Employers’ Association (GEA), the Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, said advancing women’s representation in leadership was critical to building more innovative, resilient and productive organisations capable of supporting national development.
The conference, organised under the Female Future Programme Ghana (FFPGH), brought together business leaders, development partners, policymakers and women professionals to discuss ethical leadership, accountability and inclusive governance under the theme, “Leading from Top: Executive Responsibility Beyond Strategy.”

Dr Lartey noted that sustainable progress required leadership that delivers “deliberate, measurable and transformative action” rather than symbolic commitments. She said effective leadership involved creating opportunities, dismantling systemic barriers and ensuring institutions reflected values of fairness, competence, inclusion and accountability.
According to her, organisations that prioritise gender inclusion and parity often achieve stronger performance outcomes, greater innovation and improved resilience, making women’s participation not only a social imperative but also an economic and development necessity.
She commended the Ghana Employers’ Association for sustaining the annual conference since 2022 and for promoting inclusive leadership through the Female Future Programme, describing it as “one of the most impactful leadership interventions” in Ghana’s efforts to advance corporate inclusion and gender-responsive leadership.
The Female Future Programme Ghana, launched in 2019 with support from the Confederation of Norwegian Enterprise, is designed to equip women with leadership, governance and boardroom competencies. Since its introduction, the initiative has trained hundreds of women from both public and private sector institutions, many of whom have progressed into senior leadership and decision-making roles.
