In a significant move aimed at empowering women in Ghana, Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, the running mate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has reiterated the party’s commitment to establishing a Women’s Development Bank if they win the upcoming elections.
This announcement was made during the NDC’s manifesto launch on August 24, 2024, in Winneba, Central Region.
The proposed bank is designed to address the financial challenges that female entrepreneurs often face when seeking loans from traditional financial institutions. Prof. Opoku-Agyemang articulated that the initiative will not only provide low-interest loans but also offer financial education and sustainable support to women-led businesses.
She stated, “The Women’s Development Bank will be established to empower female entrepreneurs and small business owners by providing low-interest loans, financial education and sustainable support.”

This initiative aims to create job opportunities and reduce the financial barriers that hinder many women from starting and maintaining their businesses.
Prof. Opoku-Agyemang emphasized that the next NDC government will focus on enhancing the economic prospects of women, stating, “This initiative will create job opportunities and bring down the financial barriers that many women face when starting and sustaining businesses.”

Furthermore, she highlighted that the bank would offer advisory services to women entrepreneurs, thereby fostering their growth and success. She noted, “Additionally, the bank will provide women-led businesses with advisory services and low-interest loans, further supporting their growth and success.”
