WhatsApp is set to phase out its Electron-based macOS app in favor of a new Catalyst-based version. The older app will be discontinued in 54 days, and users are advised to switch to the new version or use WhatsApp Web for continued access.
Meta-owned WhatsApp is evolving its platform with a new macOS app built using Apple’s Catalyst framework, which leverages the iPhone version for a more native and efficient experience. The current Electron app, which operates as a web-based platform, has been criticized for its slower performance and limitations.

Users of the legacy app are receiving notifications about the shutdown and are encouraged to transition to the newer app. Additionally, WhatsApp is reportedly working on adding a voice chat feature to Meta AI. This feature, which was initially found in the beta version for Android, will allow users to interact with the AI chatbot using voice commands, aiming to improve communication efficiency and offer a more personalized experience.
The voice chat feature is expected to enhance interaction speed and fluidity by allowing users to speak instead of type, with Meta AI responding in a customizable voice.
