Virgin Atlantic has announced its return to Ghana with the relaunch of daily flights between Accra and London Heathrow, scheduled to begin in May 2025.
This marks the airline’s first operation on this route since 2013, aiming to introduce much-needed competition and choice for travelers.
The airline in 2013 September, halted their services on the route after service of three years, they attributed the halt to high prices of fuel in Ghana and also on the wider economic environment and ability to operate morning arrivals from Accra due to scarcity of slots at London.
The new service is intended to meet the increasing demand for travel between Ghana and the UK, which hosts the third-largest Ghanaian diaspora globally.
Passengers will have the advantage of connecting through London to Virgin Atlantic’s extensive U.S. route network, including major destinations such as New York, Boston, Washington, D.C., Miami, and Los Angeles.
Beginning on 1st May 2025, the daily flights will utilize a mix of Airbus A330-300 and A330-900neo aircraft. These planes will offer Virgin Atlantic’s Upper Class, Premium, Economy Delight, Classic, and Light cabins, along with an onboard social space.
Additionally, the route is expected to be a significant cargo corridor, with the airline offering 30 tonnes of capacity per flight for goods such as fresh produce between Ghana and key markets in the UK and U.S.
Virgin Atlantic disclosed this information in a statement released on Monday, September 2.
